As you have probably noticed, akingsmercury.com was offline for two days lately. I moved to another host in order to be prepared for a little more growth of my website (hopefully). Sorry for that!
I can console everybody that was sad about akingsmercury.com being offline by admitting that I was frustrated, too. I kind of looked like this all day: sad puppy. Hope that makes you feel better.
Working with high-resolution video or high quality audio it is inevitable to accumulate a number of external hard drives or solid state drives in order to provide enough room for storage of projects. If you want to be on the save site and backup your files, you need even more disk space.
A couple of years later and you end up with dozens of 0,5, 1, 2 … TB hard drives realizing that you have forgotten to make an inventory of your HD collection including an appropriate numbering system. In this situation it is pretty hard to find the exact project you are looking for. Most of the time you have to guess and connect 3-4 hard drives to your mac before you find the project you want.
Power chords are still an essential part of rock music as well as many other guitar dominated music styles. Nonetheless, standard power chords become boring quite fast to every over average guitar player. Power chords can be used perfectly as a musical device within a song but shouldn’t be the center of it. A nice way to bring a little bit more flavour into your power chord strumming is to use one of these ten creative power chord variations.
In this article you find nine power chord variations that I gathered over the years by means of experimenting and listen to many different styles of music. I not only give you a chord scale of each power chord but also a riff that I wrote by use of them. The riffs come in form of tabs and a short video clip. In the last years I have been leaving behind my electric guitar, picking up my steel acoustic guitar more often. So don’t be surprised seeing me playing these rocking power chords on my father’s old steel string guitar. I am quite faithful that you will be able to play them on your distorted guitar anyway.

It is Christmas time a
gain and what is better than playing and singing the most popular Christmas songs with your family. As a small Christmas gift, I searched for the most famous Christmas songs of all time and created this wonderful list.
To help you save your precious Christmas time I also added a link to guitar chords and lyrics to each song. Often, when I start out learning a song I need an audible version of it to get the melody right and a better feel for the rhythm and tempo.

Music is an essential part of film. Nonetheless, often we are not even aware of the music playing in the background. However, if we realized on how many levels it influences us and our perception we would probably be amazed.
In the beginning of cinema in the late 19th century the projector of film made so much noise that music was necessary to overpower it. Also, film was silent and music was used to explain the actions taking place on the screen. When the sound film was invented in 1923 dialogs could finally be heard and messages could be delivered verbally. Through this invention it turned out that music was sill an essential dimension of film and could not be missed. Then, music was established once and for all as a functional and aesthetic part of film.
To learn more about the effects of music, I researched and found seven functions of music in film or video described in the book ‘Music and Emotion’. In the following, I present these seven functions to you by means of a short description and an illustrative film clip. Try to become aware of the effect of music in this clips and in the next movie you are going to watch. Share your insights in the comments bellow.
Plenty of times, I read or heard the statement: ‘Film-score composers are the compositional geniuses of our time.’ In my eyes, there is a lot of truth behind this statement. Film-score composers need to be literate not only in many different musical genres but they also have to have a particularly keen sense for the interaction between video and music.
As a normal composer you are free to compose whatever you want most of the times. As a film-score composer you have to deal with many restrictions like deadlines, the directors vision, temp tracks, video, scenes and many more.
Besides all these tripping stones there have been some marvelous film-score composers that created the most compelling soundtrack for great films. These soundtracks not only function as a third emotional dimension in film but are on their own of high aesthetic value as well.
Why is music so important in marketing and advertisement and what strategies are there to use it effectively? The influence of music on our moods, emotions, perceptions and preferences is often more present than we consciously experience. The psychology behind the mechanism of how music effects us are still not understood entirely. Nonetheless, they can be used in advertisement and commercials to sell a product or achieve a desired outcome.
In the following, I introduce you to the most effective ways to use music in marketing and advertising. Additionally, I bring in examples in form of a video to illustrate the effect that it has and to let you consciously understand it. I suggest that you watch the videos without music at first. Then unmute it and watch it again to recognize the difference!!!
Every Mac or Computer user comes across the moment when he or she simply wants to record what he hears through his speakers. Let it be a show on your favorite life stream radio or audio samples from that funny talk on YouTube. It doesn’t matter what it is (if it doesn’t infringe the copyright laws if you know what I mean) setting up a system to record your audio output isn’t as easy as it seems in the beginning.
It is though absolutely doable and 100% free. In this tutorial, I want to show you in an easy to understand step by step manner how to record what you hear on your Mac OS X system. For the ones who just want a step by step plan with no explanation aside, please skip to the end.
No one would argue against the statement that music and emotions can have a strong relationship with each other, but how is it even possible that something as abstract as music can evoke our most personal emotions?
To answer this questions I have read parts of the book ‘Handbook of Music and Emotions’ edited by Patrik N. Juslin and John A Sloboda. With this article, I would like to share some of the most interesting and revealing findings I encountered so far and give you an introduction to the seven mechanism that evoke emotions.
